UNC Charlotte Housing | Living Agreement - Interactive Workbook What's Next? Now that you've completed this interactive workbook, you should have an idea of how you want to live in a shared living environment. What issues are most important or least important to you? What are you willing to negotiate or give up in order to get the things most important to you? Try ranking issues from most to least important prior to meeting with your roommates. Some things, such as sharing of food, may be non-negotiable. Be honest with your roommates about these issues. However, you will need to compromise in other areas. For instance, you may want the thermostat set at 76* and your roommate may want it set at 68*. Perhaps you both can dress differently and be comfortable at 72*. If you think it will be difficult to talk openly, frankly, and constructively with your roommates about these issues, you can ask your Resident Advisor (RA) to help with the process. However, you may be ready to negotiate without an RA's assistance. In this case, feel free to arrange your own meeting to complete the Living Agreement. Once you and your roommates have completed the Living Agreement, everyone should sign it. Keep a copy where all roommmates have access to it and take the other copy to your RA. In a few weeks, you will be encouraged to revisit your agreement. Things rarely work perfectly the first time. After your first attempt, you may want to re-negotiate some areas or add things you've forgotten. Your RA can provide you with a new copy of the Living Agreement if you need one or you can download it in PDF format, by clicking here.
